What is PPS Mutual?
- PPS (Professional Provident Society) started in South Africa in 1941 when a group of dentists came together to protect each other financially in case of illness, injury, or death.
- Since then, it has grown to serve over 160,000 professionals in South Africa, expanding into life, health, general insurance, investments, estate planning, and wealth management.
- PPS Mutual Australia launched in 2016 and now serves more than 12,000 professionals and has won best insurer of the year (as voted by advisers) for two years running.
- While PPS South Africa provided the resources to help establish PPS Mutual New Zealand and supports its long-term success, PPS Mutual New Zealand is independent and locally operated, with a New Zealand-based team and independent Board.
- We partner with independent financial advisers accredited by PPS Mutual NZ to bring this model to Kiwi professionals.
What does being a mutual mean?
- Being a mutual means the company is owned by its members, not external shareholders. PPS Mutual does this using a trust structure.
- This means the business exists for the benefit of members.
- All PPS Mutual staff are based in New Zealand and all decisions are made locally in the best interests of our policyholders which includes our members.
- As the ultimate owners of the business, members share in our financial success through the Profit Share Benefit.
