Who we are

Our story – specialist cover for specialists.

PPS was originally founded in South Africa as a mutual income protection scheme by a group of dentists. To protect themselves, they set up a society where everybody contributed, and funds were used to help members through a period of illness or to support their loved ones should the member die.

Through this shared ethos of mutuality, PPS grew to include other like-minded professionals in South Africa, Namibia, Australia – and now, New Zealand.

Today, PPS South Africa is a diversified financial institution offering life insurance, general insurance, medical aid, investments, and medical indemnity insurance to its professional members.

The Professional Provident Society (PPS) was formed in South Africa in 1941. The original founders, a group of professional dentists, were driven by a belief in the power of mutuality and looking for a better way to protect their interests.

The result? PPS is now the largest mutual financial services company in South Africa, with over 80 years of experience in delivering value and long-term returns to its members. It now serves thousands of professionals around the world.
